1.2.25 … "Solvitur Ambulando” - It is solved by walking, 2025 Christmastide Labyrinth Walks, 2025 Labyrinth Walks, St. John’s Episcopal Church - Charlotte NC
Serendipitous!
It was a glorious day today here in Charlotte.
My labyrinth walking friend Toni had texted about getting together to find the perfect placement for a dog stake and tether adjacent to the labyrinth. We had set up to meet at 1 PM. When we arrived, we quickly determined that a good place for the stake was next to the bench , and so we placed it. Toni noted that the last three times she had walked this labyrinth, there had been no wind and so the chimes made no noise. But today was a beautiful bright day with us a slight breeze, and the chimes were singing to us as we walked.
We talked about family events and the trials and tribulations of life and our hopes for good 2025.
We also talked about events such as the death of President Jimmy Carter a few days ago. I told her the story of how I had two friends who had worked in the White House and then as part of the transition team in Atlanta. One friend has noted that she is going to go to Plains as part of the memorial services. She wants to hear the bell ring 39 times for our 39th president at the family farm. This is a function being put on by the National Park Service.
At one point, I noted that Toni has become my new Mrs. Wayt; she always remove every weed from the garden around the labyrinth.
Another thing that we talked about was the maintenance of labyrinths. This labyrinth was dedicated just over a year ago. Already it needs a good cleaning. She is scheduling a cleaning. I mentioned that I have a family member who loves outdoor spaces, both creating and maintaining them, and that that might be an interesting long-term job for someone who loves gardens.
As we were walking out, Toni mentioned that a number of the Willow Oaks will be taken down. These trees have exceeded their maturity point, and the root structure will no longer support them. This will drastically impact the campus of the church. After experiencing the loss of just one large oak tree at Avondale, I thought of losing these trees. Very sad …
And last ... Tony and I exchanged Christmas gifts. I loved that hers was a jar of Savannah Bee Company1 Royal Jelly Body Butter. I am sure she did not know that the Savannah Bee Company’s founder and “beekeeper, Ted Dennard, is my third cousin 1x removed. Serendipitous!
Blessings in 2025.
